aboutRob

Rob Olds, 58, is originally from Chicago, IL, grew up in southern Ohio, and has lived in north Texas for five years. He is a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds. He first started watching the likes of Pete Rose and Johnny Bench during the 1978 season and followed Rose's hitting streak that summer that was eventually stopped at 44 games. Before that, his earliest baseball memory was watching Reggie Jackson and the New York Yankees facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1977 World Series — and Mr. October launching three home runs on three straight pitches at Yankee Stadium in Game 6 to clinch the title.

Baseball shaped Rob’s childhood, sharpened his instincts, and still fuels his curiosity today. He was a 6’5” hard-throwing lefty and was scouted by Reds scouting supervisor Gene Bennett and the Pittsburgh Pirates in high school and college.

Rob is an insurance professional in Complex Claims in Healthcare at CNA.  When he’s not working or writing about the sport he loves, you’ll find him collecting vintage baseball cards and sports memorabilia, traveling, reading, or out on a long walk — 3–5 miles a day — to stay active.
